Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use my NDIS funding for these programs?

Many participants use NDIS funding for our programs. The category depends on how your plan is written and what your goals are. Download our Funding Guide to see the options, or call us on 1800 577 370 and we will talk it through with you.

Do I need a diagnosis to join?

No. You do not need a specific diagnosis. Our programs are designed for adults with autism, intellectual disability and other disabilities. If you are not sure the program is right for you, give us a call.

Who runs the programs?

Qualified counsellors and sexologists. Every facilitator is trained in disability education and has experience running small groups.

How do I join a group in Melbourne?

Fill in our online referral form, or call 1800 577 370. We will check which group has space and talk to you about start dates. You can also ask your support coordinator to refer you.

What if there is no group running in Melbourne right now?

Two options. You can join one of our online groups, which run the same program from home. Or you can let us know you are interested and we will contact you when a Melbourne group is planned. Enough interest in one area is often what starts a new group.

How many people are in a group?

Date-Ability groups have a maximum of 12 people. We keep groups small so everyone gets a turn and feels comfortable.

What ages are the programs for?

Date-Ability, Relationship Skills Counselling and Financial Literacy are for adults 18 and over. Guide to Adulting is for young people aged 17 to 21.

How long does each program run?

Date-Ability runs for 11 weeks, 2 hours each week in most locations. Western Australia runs a 4-week pop-up version, and Tasmania runs a pop-up version over 4 sessions across 2 weeks (Tuesdays and Wednesdays). Guide to Adulting runs for 8 weeks. Financial Literacy runs for 12 weeks. Relationship Skills Counselling runs for 6 weeks one-to-one.

My funding is not approved yet. Can I still book?

Yes. Let us know and we will hold your spot while your funding is being confirmed. Groups do fill up, so it is better to tell us early.

Can a support worker come with me?

Yes. Support workers are welcome to attend with you if that helps you take part.

Is there a social event at the end?

Yes. Date-Ability finishes with a supported social event. It is a chance to practise the skills you have learnt and meet other people from the program.

Can you deliver the program online?

Yes. We run online groups and telehealth appointments across Australia. You join from home using a computer, tablet or phone.
