Financial Literacy

The Financial Literacy Program is an NDIS-funded online group program designed specifically for adults with disability, including those with Autism, intellectual disability and other NDIS-supported conditions. Over 12 weeks, participants build real-world money skills — from budgeting and banking to scam awareness and financial safety — in a supportive small group environment led by experienced counsellors.

Every Financial Literacy session runs for 1.5 hours online via Zoom, once a week for 12 weeks, in a small group of up to 12 participants. Sessions are relaxed, practical and designed to feel approachable — even for people who find money topics stressful or overwhelming.

Before the program begins, every participant receives a physical workbook posted directly to them. This workbook is theirs to keep — they work through it each week alongside the session, writing notes, completing activities and tracking their own financial goals as the program progresses.

Each weekly session follows a clear structure built around that week’s learning module:

  • A check-in to settle the group and revisit anything from the previous week
  • An interactive lesson covering that week’s module topic — using plain language, real-life examples and accessible activities
  • Group discussion where participants can share experiences, ask questions and problem-solve together in a safe, judgement-free space
  • A workbook activity completed together during the session so no one is left to figure it out alone
  • A wrap-up summarising key takeaways and a simple action to try before next week

The 12 modules build on each other week by week — starting with understanding money and budgeting basics, and finishing with financial confidence, rights and scam awareness. By the end of the program participants don’t just know more about money — they feel genuinely equipped to manage it.
