Why Financial Literacy Is a Life Skill Every Adult with Disability Deserves
Managing money is one of the most practical skills an adult needs to live independently — yet financial education for people with disability is often overlooked, inaccessible, or non-existent. FS Academy’s Financial Literacy program is changing that.
The Financial Literacy Gap for People with Disability
Adults with Autism or intellectual disability are disproportionately targeted by financial scammers, more likely to experience financial exploitation, and less likely to have received practical, accessible money education. This is not a reflection of capability — it is a reflection of a systemic gap in support.
What the FS Academy Financial Literacy Program Covers
Our online group program covers the essential financial skills adults need to manage their day-to-day lives and plan for the future:
- Budgeting: understanding income and expenses
- Saving strategies and goal setting
- Making informed spending decisions
- Banking: how to use accounts safely
- Understanding bills, payments, and financial responsibilities
- Identifying scams and online financial safety
- Recognising and responding to financial risk
Delivered Online for Maximum Accessibility
Unlike our face-to-face programs, the Financial Literacy program is delivered online — meaning participants across any location in Australia can access it. This format also allows participants to engage from a familiar, comfortable environment.
Sessions are structured, paced appropriately, and facilitated in small groups so that every participant has the opportunity to ask questions and build understanding at their own pace.
Real-World Examples Throughout
Our facilitators use practical, real-life examples throughout the program — from reading a payslip to identifying a phishing email. This grounded approach helps participants connect new knowledge to their actual daily lives.
Who Is This Program For?
The Financial Literacy program is designed for adults living with Autism, intellectual disability, or other supported learning needs who want to build greater independence in managing their finances.
